I believe that a proper diet, exercise and meditation is superior to maintaining good health.  The studies continue to show the amazing health benefits of what a plant-based diet can do in terms of lowering cholesterol, reversing diabetes, high blood pressure and even curing cancer.  We know and understand that putting toxins into your body is not good.  Processed foods, factory farming, pesticides in our soil, pollution and chemicals in our water all contribute to poor health.  Saying this, why is there a huge and sudden push for vaccinations?  Is there really a sudden outbreak of diseases that we must be vaccinated against?  And if so, should we, as individuals, have the right to choose whether or not we want to be vaccinated?

Ask yourself these questions:

  • Why the sudden push for vaccination?
  • Who tends to benefit from mandatory vaccinations?
  • Is there a life/death outbreak of disease that requires vaccinations?
  • Shouldn’t putting toxins into your body be the choice of each individual within the legal age?
  • What will mandatory vaccinations impose on us next?

I understand that people who are in favour of vaccination are afraid for their well-being and the well-being of their children but, how about the rights of those who are against the vaccinations and their well-being?

I know many people out there are inclined to believe that everything that our government legislates is in our best interests.  Need I remind you of the following the government has indicated was in our best interests:

  • Slavery/Segregation
  • The Viet Nam War
  • 9/11
  • The Invasion of Iraq
  • Mandatory HPV inoculation
  • Monsanto
  • The lack of banking regulations around the world
  • Support of BIG CORPORATIONS (oil/agriculture/pharmaceuticals)
  • Women’s reproductive rights (abortion laws)

We should all have the right to choose what we do with and to our bodies.  What happens when the right of free choice is taken away from us?  What next?  Will governments instruct women on when and how many kids they should have?  What if a political party is pro-life, will they instill legislation that will not allow the women’s right to choose what she does with her body?

You can have micro-chips implanted into our pets to help us locate them if they are lost.  There continues to be debate on the same type of micro-chips for humans.  Apparently, this chip would list all previous medical history of that person.  But is that the only information that chip would include about a person?  Would this be another way for governments to keep track of us.  These types of initiatives or inventions seem more to the benefit of our governments to instill more control.  Is that no different from vaccinations?

The bottom line is – if you want to trust that vaccinations are in you and your family’s best interest, then vaccinate.  However, don’t impose your views and judgements on those who decide not to.  I personally, do not want more or my free choice taken away from me.

Here are some videos on the subject of vaccination:

Together, we can make the world a more positive one!

Many of us tend to overuse the word love even when we don’t really mean it.  Think about the many times throughout the day that you say, “I love (fill in the blank)”  We love clothing, cars, televisions, television programs, songs, artists, art, houses, boats and other material possessions.  These material possessions provide a temporary form of love and gratification that is somewhat meaningless.  These possessions are reason that there is a widening income inequality gap between the masses.  Is that really love?

Why are so many of us so preoccupied with wanting and needing instead of helping and giving?  We are all so conditioned to follow – get an education (if you can afford it), find a life partner, get married, have children, buy a big house (beyond your means and necessity), buy a car (or two, or three), buy a vacation property, save for your future/retirement, save for your children’s education and then die.  I understand the desire to want the best for yourself and your family – but so many people have become desensitized to the realities of our world, so many just don’t care about the wellness of others and will only act out of greed and their desire to want more material possessions, money and wealth.

Capitalism – an economic and political system in which a country’s trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit, rather than by the state.

Corporations are nothing without the consumer.  We are all contributors to all the issues the world faces today.  People are so concerned with status and having the latest gadgets, the biggest houses, and the best cars that our planet and our humanity is paying the price for.  All of these gadgets and our demand for product is taxing the earth’s natural resources.  Corporations don’t want you to see the negative impact YOUR demand is having on the planet and the people who create these materialistic things.  Is the destruction of our planet worth the price the planet has to pay for the next iPhone or iMac – aren’t these products already doing what they are supposed to do?  Why do we need the latest version(s)?  It’s simple – to make outstanding profits for shareholders and CEO’s.  Household appliances, cars, televisions and many other products are produced to have short ‘life’ expectancies because they want to ensure people continue to buy.  Shouldn’t a car be made to last 15 to 20 years instead of 5 to 7?  Why must a new model entice us every year?  To ensure wealth for the auto industry CEO’s and shareholders.

Personally, our society today makes my head spin.  I am astounded at how many of us are distracted by the greed or corporations and how they buy politicians in order to sustain their wealth and to dictate legislation.  It shouldn’t be the BIG oil companies, auto industry or pharmaceutical companies that dictate what we should do or what we should think.  We know that drilling for oil in the Arctic would wreak havoc in that area should their be an oil spill (and there will be).  We know that fracking (the process of drilling and injecting fluid into the ground at a high pressure in order to fracture shale rocks to release natural gas) takes 1 to 8 millions gallons of water to complete each fracturing while there is a shortage of water globally.

We must review our priorities and we must curb our need to want and need.  Future generations will pay for the decisions we make today.  Do we not love the planet enough in order to make the hard decisions today in order to save our planet and future generations?

I love my mother – I love her tremendously.  She is my hero.  She provided love and nurturing that made me the man I am today.  Shouldn’t our greatest love be the mother of us all?  Our mother – EARTH,  she cares for us and she provides us the breath of life, the food we eat and the water we drink and how do we show our gratitude?  We pollute her waters, poison her soil and cut her forests down in an alarming rate in order to build bigger houses for people who are slaves to the corporate world.

Let your love for life be the catalyst for positive change in the world.  Make conscious choices in what you buy, who you buy it from and what type of impact it will have on our planet.  Ask your government for renewable and sustainable energy options for our homes and our cars.  Support companies that plant trees instead of removing them.  Support housing developers that don’t clearcut in order to build their sites and use sustainable materials.  Eat vegan/vegetarian meals as often as you can.  Sign petitions to stop BIG OIL companies from drilling in eco-sensitive areas in the world such as the Arctic.  Don’t contribute to landfills by buying things you don’t need.  Support auto companies that are making commitments to build cars that use clean energy sources.  Show the planet your love and make a difference for good.

I have heard many religious leaders indicating that allowing same-sex couples to marry would be the downfall of civilizations.  People have even gone as far as blaming environment catastrophe’s due to states grating same-sex marriage.  Okay….let’s look at some statistics and facts surrounding the implementation and recognition of same-sex marriages around the world, here are some timelines:

  • Netherlands was the first country to extend marriage laws to include same-sex couples.  A same-sex marriage bill passed the House of Representatives and the Senate in 2000, taking effect on 1 April, 2001.
  • Belgium became the second country in the world to legally recognize same-sex marriages.
  • The provinces of Ontario and British Columbia in Canada legally recognized same-sex marriages in 2003 – Ontario (June) and British Columbia (July).
  • In 2004 – The Canadian provinces of Quebec (March),  Yukon (July), Manitoba (September), Nova Scotia (September), Saskatchewan (November) and Newfoundland (December) legally recognized same-sex marriages.  Nationally, Canada (July) legally recognized same-sex marriage as of July 20, 2005 – becoming the 4th country to do so.  Sandoval County, New Mexico, USA (February; discontinued, reinstated by statewide legalization in December), New Paltz, New York, USA (February; discontinued, reinstated by statewide legalization in July, 2011), Massachusetts, USA (May)
  • On July 3, 2005 – Spain became the 3rd country to officially recognize same-sex marriage legally.
  • 2006 – South Africa (November) recognizes same-sex marriage.
  • 2008 – California, USA (June, discontinued November and reinstated June (2013) and Connecticut, USA (November) recognize same-sex marriage.
  • 2009 – Norway (January) and Sweden (May) and in the USA, Iowa (January) and Vermont (September).
  • 2010 – The US States of New Hampshire (January) and District of Columbia (March) along with Portugal (June), Iceland (June) and Argentina (July) begin recognizing same-sex marriage.
  • 2011 – New York, statewide (July).
  • 2012 – Denmark (June) and the US states of Washington (December) and Maine (December).
  • 2013 – The US states of Maryland (January), Delaware (July), Minnesota (August), Rhode Island (August), New Jersey (October), Hawaii (December), New Mexico (statewide) (December) and Utah (December, discontinued in January and reinstated in October, 2014) along with the countries; Brazil (May), France (May), Uruguay (August) and New Zealand (August).
  • 2014 – In the USA; Oregon (May), Pennsylvania (May), Illinois (statewide) (June), Wisconsin (June, discontinued 13 June and reinstated October), Indiana (June, discontinued 27 June and reinstated in October), Oklahoma (October), Virginia (October), Colorado (October), West Virginia (October), Nevada (October), North Carolina (October), Alaska (October), Idaho (October), Arizona (October), Wyoming (October), Montana (November), South Carolina (November) along with England of Wales (March) and Scotland (December).
  • 2015 – Luxembourg (January) and the US States; Florida (January) and Alabama (February).

So what has happened since the all these countries and many states have legalizes same-sex marriages?  Have economies collapsed?  Did civil war break out in these countries and states?  For those who are religious and God-fearing – has God caused biblical floods of epic proportions or burned cities to the ground for granting same-sex marriages?  I can confidently say – that, with the introduction of same-sex marriages, unions, partnerships (whatever you want to call them), nothing drastic has changed for any heterosexuals couple that have opposed this in the past.  The only thing that has changed is for those individuals in same-sex unions.  Same-sex couples have the same benefits and rights that are afforded to heterosexual married couples and are treated equally under the law.

Let’s look at Canada – Canada has been grating same-sex marriages since 2003 (in 2 provinces – Ontario and British Columbia).  Ontario is my home province and nothing significant has happened in the province since allowing same-sex marriages.  As a matter-of-fact, nothing has happened anywhere in which same-sex marriages have been granted.  Same-sex unions/marriages are not to blame for the huge spikes in the divorce rates between heterosexual couples.  Instead of focusing their dissent on couples who are in loving  and committed relationships, why don’t those who are so opposed to same-sex marriages focus their rage and dissention on the increasing divorce rates, homelessness, poverty, violence towards women, and other more pressing social issues?

My spouse and I have been together for over 20 years and married for 7….our relationship or marriage hasn’t infringed on the rights and responsibilities of anyone we know.  We made the decision to marry to ensure we were treated equally in the eyes of the law (not to mention the fact that we love one another).  My marriage is as equally meaningful as my parents, my sisters or my brother’s marriage.  That is all.

As I mentioned above, if people would just focus their energies on the real social issues that need our attention, this world would be a much brighter and positive one!  Let’s make that happen.

Together, we can make the world a more positive one!

I have so many people I respect and look up to, people like; Louise L. Hay, Roseanne Barr (the writer, actress and more importantly – politician), Jesse Ventura, Al Gore, Leonardo DiCaprio, Marianne Williamson, and Eckhart Tolle just to name a few.  Here are other individuals in the public eye that I admire and why I admire them:

Ingrid Newkirk

You may know her as the animal rights activist and PETA president but what you may not have known is that Ingrid has a passion for Formula One racing and sumo-wrestling.  Ingrid wasn’t always a vegetarian and did enjoy meat until she began her work in the ethical treatment of animals.  Ingrid’s mother volunteered for Mother Teresa in a leper colony.    You can see the Matthew Galkin directed movie called, ‘I Am Animal’, which is about Ingrid’s life.  Ingrid Newkirk is the president and co-founder of PETA (Peta for the Ethical Treatment of Animals).

Bob Geldof

Much more than lead singer of the Boomtown Rats, Bob Geldof is a humanitarian.  In 1984, he organized Band Aid with Midge Ure, lead singer of Ultravox.  The single “Do They Know It’s Christmas”, became the fastest selling single in U.K. history and raised over £8 million worldwide in funds for emergency aid to Ethiopia.  In 1985, and building on the momentum of Band Aid, the dual Live Aid concerts in London and Philadelphia were held on July 13.  Over a billion and a half people worldwide watched the 16 hour event on television, in which over 60 of the biggest stars in rock music performed, and over £100 million was raised for African famine relief.  Musical and political history was made.

July 2005, Bob Geldof organized Live 8 to coincide with the 20th anniversary of Live Aid – the show was to help pressure world leaders to drop the debt of the world’s poorest nations, increase and improve aid and negotiate fairer trade rules in interest of poorer countries.

Band Aid Thirty’s and the new version of “Do They Know It’s Christmas” purpose as pointed out by Bob Geldof was and is to maximize pressure on politicians, raise awareness and raise money to fight Ebola in Africa.

Lizzie Velasquez

Imagine how difficult a life we would have if we didn’t have the same facial features as the majority.  We are bullied, harassed and made fun of….that was the case for beautiful Lizzie Velasquez.  Lizzie was born with a very rare condition (only 2 other known people have).  Despite her condition and being called ‘World’s Ugliest Woman’, Lizzie rose above and became an amazing motivation speaker and author.  Lizzie provides inspiration to so many through unconditional love, perseverance and determination.

Elizabeth Warren

We have all dreamed of politicians who hold big corporations and banks accountable for their lack of action to help the consumer and the working class.  That has changed in US politics with Elizabeth Warren.  Elected in 2012 as the first-ever female senator from Massachusetts defeating incumbent Scott Brown.  She taught law at Rutgers School of Law, the Universities of Michigan, Texas, Pennsylvania and Harvard Law School.  She introduced the ‘Bank on Student Loans Fairness Act’, which would allow students to take out government education loans at the same rate that banks such as Goldman Sachs and J.P. Morgan Chase pay to borrow from the federal government.  Suggesting that students should get “the same great deal that banks get”, Warren proposed that new student borrowers be able to take out a federally subsidized loan at 0.75%, the rate paid by banks, compared with the current 3.4% student loan rate.

What do we know….we are just simple humans.  Here is what we do know and I can’t imagine why we are not doing as much as we should to change our habits:

Cigarettes can cause cancer – so why do people continue to smoke?  Profits for the tobacco industry are key so, in order to maximize profit, you have to create a product that is addictive and that can have financial benefits for other sectors (health, pharma, etc.)

Eating meat is the biggest challenge to climate change – so why are we not being told to eat less meat more often?  In the past, we have been told that greenhouse gas emissions where the biggest culprit to climate change and the warming of the planet.  Nonsense.  A carnivorous diet challenges the environment in so many ways, such as;  deforestation, pollution and depleting water resources.  Eating meat not only has environmental impacts – they also have health implications such as; high blood pressure, high cholesterol and is also known to cause various cancers.

Modernization causes unemployment – so why do we continue to modernize, especially in a world where the have’s have far more wealth than the combined majority?  The more our lives become convenient due to modernization, the more people become unemployed.  Think about it….Why hire people when you can do anything from buying groceries to applying for a driver’s license online?  Imagine a world were you can go to a local convenience store and purchase anything you want from a vending machine?  Remove the ‘middle man’ and corporations profit more.

Most government’s work for corporations – so why do we continue to vote?  Most governments operate in the guise of working for ‘the people’ – most people do not want a mediocre education or processed foods, we certainly do not want to breathe poisonous gases or drink poisonous water.  Why are governments protecting those that do not require protection – farmers should be able to provide most of our food without having to worry about big corporations like Monsanto.  Governments should be regulating big corporations to ensure they are not killing citizens with bad food, biased information, poor education and unhealthy foods.

Pharmaceutical drugs and companies do not have our best interests at hand – so why do we keep buying their bull and their drugs?   We know that most pharmaceutical drugs are addictive, and have very minor health benefits.  Some antidepressants have been know to cause people to take their own lives.  Pain medications have created addictions and dependencies that are weighing heavy on the economy.  Why are we allowing pharmaceutical companies to pay our governments to push through legislation to help sell their products but throwing individuals into maximum security prisons for minor marijuana possession charges?

These big industry giants work hand-in-hand to ensure they continue reaping the financial benefits from products that continue to make us sick and for much longer.  Why feed people healthy and nutritious foods when you can sell them processed foods, make them sick so that they can go visit their doctors and have their doctors prescribe them medications that will only keep them sick longer – MONEY.  Why should the automobile sector develop vehicles that are more economically and environmentally efficient when we can continue the destruction of the planet with automobiles that will ensure your children have no future?  MONEY.  Why should corporate media want to ensure that those who receive their news are receiving news that will motivate them to act?  MONEY.  Why should our elected officials be concerned about the state of education (lack thereof) that would ensure that students not only receive the best education but proper nutrition as well?  MONEY.

MONEY – is it the most important thing in the world.  YES – because we are judged by how much money we have.  Money not only buys materialistic things – it buys POWER.  Power is not with the majority right now – power is with the elite, the corrupt, those who ensure their influence is espoused in all of us.  POWER creates wars, death and destruction.

Think about what you have in your life – would you prefer clean water, breathable air, grass, trees, wildlife and LIFE or would you prefer being controlled and live under the guise of a democracy that doesn’t even exist?

It’s time for a REVOLUTION OF LOVE, it’s time for real change!  What are WE waiting for?

Together, we can make the world a more positive one!

So many people have proclaimed that our world would end for various reasons:  God/Jesus is coming back to save the ‘chosen ones’, the end loomed on Y2K, and most recently, many predicted that because the Mayan calendar ended on 2012 – they determined that our world would end to.  What constitutes these predictions and why are most “doom and gloom” and negative predictions?

Today, I would like to share a video entitled:  ‘Why I Think This World Should End’ – now, before you assume that the video will only regurgitate the same negative and ‘doom and gloom’ predictions – I ask you to watch and be inspired:

This piece is spoken word art and is performed by Prince Ea – these words and the emotion in them are the words and emotions so many of us are feeling about the state of the planet, politics, the environment and all other social issues today.  I am grateful that Prince Ea shared this and is enlightening and sending positive change into the universe.

Together, we can make the world a more positive one!

The land that is now Canada has been inhabited for millennia by various Aboriginal peoples (indigenous peoples in North America).  They comprise the First Nations, Inuit and Métis which have helped to shape Canada’s cultural identity.  The name Canada comes from the St. Lawrence Iroquoian word kanata, meaning “village” or “settlement”.

I was born in Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal but immigrated to Canada in 1973 just before turning 4 years old.  I really don’t have any memories of the country I was born.  I really consider myself to be Canadian and made it official on my 20th birthday in 1989.

Frequently referred to as Canada’s birthday, Canada Day is the national day of Canada celebrating the anniversary of the July 1, 1867, enactment of the British North American Act, 1867 (today called the Constitution Act, 1867), which united three colonies into a single country called Canada within the British Empire.

In celebration of Canada Day and my 25th anniversary of becoming Canadian, I thought I would share some interesting facts about Canada, here they are:

Here’s to you Canada!

Together, we can make the world a more positive one!

Are You Ready To WAKE UP?

What if everything we are being told isn’t in our best interest?  We are constantly bombarded with news stories that have no real significance or relevance in our lives.  How are celebrity pregnancies or divorces going to enrich our lives?  How many ways can a news agency report the same story with a different spin or provide expert analysis on here say?  I am very skeptical in the way news stories are being sold to the public.  I really believe that government and corporations spin these news stories in order to pass legislation or to ensure that the public is on board in supporting their personal agendas.  So where do I get my news from?  I get my news from various sources on the internet – I don’t automatically believe what I read, so I try to research whatever the topic it is that I am questioning.  I recently visited my local library and purchased a book called, Censored 2009 edited by Peter Phillips and Andrew Roth with Project Censored.  This book contains the Top 25 Censored Stories of 2007 – 2008.  For someone who depends on the internet to find real and worthy news events so that I can be informed of what is going on in the world, I was astounded that I rarely (if at all) heard of any of these news stories in corporate media.

I am grateful for this organization and know that I can rely on their coverage of all the censored stories past, present and future as a reliable source of information.  The people who make up this organization are not conspiracy theorists or jaded patriots – they are concerned and angry about how illegitimate news has become.  They are angry that human atrocities are being committed around the globe without any media attention and they are outraged that our governments and corporations have the control they have in order to keep the general public ignorant and complacent through fear and mis-information.  Here is a great quote from the Preface of, Censored 2009 by Peter Phillips and Project Censored:

“Americans are faced with a truth emergency (a media/news situation so dire that no other terminology fits – see Chapter 11).  This is not just a few activists calling the situation a truth emergency, but rather a nationwide network of human rights activists, impeachment advocates, election fraud researchers, 9/11 truthers, civil libertarians, environmentalists, and just plain upset Americans.”

This books list the Top 25 Censored Stories of 2007 – 2008 including the sources of these stories, here is an example of some of the news stories included:

  • Over One Million Iraqi Deaths Caused by US Occupation
  • Security and Prosperity Partnerships:  Militarized NAFTA
  • Seizing War Protestors’ Assets
  • The Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act
  • El Salvador’s Water Privatization and the Global War on Terror
  • Marijuana Arrests Set New Record
  • Indigenous Herders and Small Farmers Fight Livestock Extinction

Why are people not concerned with their civil liberties and freedoms being taken away under the guise of terrorism?  Why are we so easy to accept the mass manipulation of government and corporations?  Isn’t time we stand and do something?  Isn’t it time to ask governments and corporations to be responsible to its citizens by working for their citizens and not the top one percent?  Haven’t we had enough of the destruction of our earth just so the CEO’s of oil companies and the auto mobile sector become richer and more powerful.  Politicians should not be pandering to BIG CORPORATIONS – we need to stop this madness and corruption and demand better.  It is our duty and it is our right to seek out the truth and not have our governments working with corporations to sell us lies so that they can become more rich, powerful and controlling.

I know that if we collectively band together – we can make changes that are positive and that would benefit our world, most of us just need to be awakened and free from distraction.  Are you ready to WAKE UP?

Hey, you, don’t you give up
It’s not so bad
There’s still a chance for us

Hey, you, just be yourself
Don’t be so shy
There’s reasons why it’s hard

Keep it together, we’ll make it all right
Our celebration is going on tonight
Poets and prophets, what ending would we do?
This could be good, hey, you

Hey, you, open your heart
It’s not so strange
You’ve got to change this time

Hey, you, remember this
None of it’s real including the way you feel

Keep it together, we’ll make it all right
Our celebration is going on tonight
Poets and prophets, what ending would we do?
This could be good, hey, you

Save your soul, little sister
Save your soul, little brother

Hey, you, save yourself
Don’t rely on anyone else

First love yourself
Then you can love someone else
Then you can change someone else
Then you have saved someone else

But you must first love yourself
Then you can love someone else
Then you can change someone else
If you can change someone else
Then you have saved someone else
But you must first

Hey, you, there on the fence
You’ve got a choice
One day it will make sense

Hey, you, first love yourself
Or if you can’t
Try to love someone else

Keep it together, we’ll make it alright
Our celebration is going on tonight
Poets and prophets, what ending would we do?
This could be good, hey you

First love yourself
Then you can love someone else
Then you can change someone else
Then you have saved someone else

But you must first love yourself
Then you can love someone else
Then you can change someone else
If you can change someone else
Then you have saved someone else
But you must first

“Hey You” Written and performed by MADONNA

Together, we can make the world a more positive one!

Turn off the television – stop the distractions and live a more positive life.

We all know that we attract what we put out into the universe – so, if you keep watching the news (which is mostly negative and biased) this is all that will return to you.  What’s the alternative to being distracted with celebrity gossip, around the clock breaking news stories about missing plans, coups, political scandals, wars, failing economies and banks and big corporations destroying our planet?  How about piece of mind, clarity, the opportunity to discover new talents, using your free time to be with loved ones, discovering nature, learning, reading, etc….

Here is an experiment for you:  Turn off the television for 1 hour after you come home and try to do something else – something you normally would not do had the television been on.  I’m not talking about cooking, cleaning or reading gossip magazines.  Try something new, something you have never done or experienced before; meditation, walk by the beach or park, yoga, dance class, tai-chi or simply talking with your partner (and I don’t mean talking about work, celebrities and the such – get to REALLY know them again).  With each day – turn off the television for longer periods of time and discover other things.  Become passionate, learn, engage and become involved in creating positive change in the world.

Once we connect to a more positive, loving, compassionate and kind vibration – that is all that we will receive.  Ask yourself – Wouldn’t life be much more enjoyable when you connect to energies that what to instill positive change into our world?  Love is REALLY the key ingredient in making the world a better place and you can’t connect to the vibration of love when you are distracted by the negative and distracting energies of media, corporations and corrupt governments.  Remove the distraction, awaken your soul and create real, positive change in the world.  What have you got to lose?

Together, we can make the world a more positive one!
